Touching Space, a Poetics of Planetary Art

← Rien de spécial Éditions

The first part of this book describes works by artists who use the planet in its geographical totality as a medium for artistic creation. It traces the emergence of this art form, which developed over the last century and whose importance grew alongside telecommunications technologies. Globalisation and ecological issues are essential dimensions of this art form.

In the second part, 25 works or projects trace 23 years of the artistic practice of the author, Stéphan Barron. 42 colour photographs and 17 black-and-white images illustrate the text.

Cover — Touching Space

Planetary Art takes the Earth as a material for artistic reflection and emotion; it uses telecommunications technologies to make distances and geographical space perceptible. This art explores the emotions and imagination of distance and engages with questions of globalisation, its human and environmental consequences. One dimension of Stéphan Barron's adventure is to awaken a broader consciousness of our planet. — Edgar Morin
